The opening ceremony of the Summer Science and Technology Innovation Camp 2022 themed “Intelligent Innovation for the Future” was held on the afternoon of July 17. Liang Liang, president of HFUT, announced the opening of the camp organized by the School of Modern Industry in Intelligent Manufacturing and passed the camp flag to the camp organizer. Wu Yucheng and Liu Zhifeng, two vice presidents of the university, were present at the event. Other leaders attending the ceremony include Liang Xiangjun, division director in charge of scientific research and postgraduate education from Anhui Provincial Department of Education, Li Xue, deputy director of Hefei Science and Technology Bureau, and Su Wei, executive deputy mayor of Baohe District, Hefei.
In his speech, Liu Zhifeng expressed his gratitude to the Party committees and governments as well as competent departments at provincial, municipal and district levels for their long-term attention and support for the student education of the university. He also briefed them on the establishment background, development and operation of the School of Modern Industry in Intelligent Manufacturing. In addition, the vice president said that HFUT has thoroughly implemented the decisions and deployment of the central Party committee and government. After fully considering the need for the development of the nation and the province in 10 emerging industries, the university initiated the establishment of the school with joint efforts of leading enterprises in related industries so as to push forward the reform of student training mode. Liu pointed out that this summer camp is a pioneering practice and exploration in the development of the school, in deepening the reform of the industry-education, research-education, and energetic education mode, and in training high-caliber professionals greatly needed by industries. He told the students that he wishes that, through this camp, they could really comprehend the ideas and wisdom of the leading figures, leaders and specialists in industry, deeply understand the current situation and the future of the intelligent manufacturing-related industries, enrich, challenge and surpass themselves through attending reports, visiting worksites and hands-on projects, and strive to grow into all-round developed, high-quality and innovative professionals.
Liang Xiangjun, Li Xue and Su Wei congratulated the opening of the camp in their speeches respectively. They all spoke highly of the achievements of the university in school-running in recent years. They hoped that HFUT and the school could focus on the regional economic development and what the key industries need, push forward the reform of talent training mode, and provide depulicable and popularizable new training patterns as reference for other higher-learning institutions in the province and afford personnel support and intellectual guarantee for local economic and social development. They expected the camp members will avail themselves of this opportunity to improve their understanding and ability of innovation and entrepreneurship, broaden their horizon of knowledge, set up more ambitious and clearer academic and career development goals, and make efforts to be high-quality inter-disciplinary innovative professionals who can play the leading role in the development of modern industry in the future and make due contributions to the beautiful modern Anhui in the new era.
After the opening ceremony, Liang Liang made a keynote speech entitled Remarks from President to the camp, which was also the first lecture to the camp participants. In the lecture, the president analyzed deeply the mission and challenges of higher education in the new era, and introduced in detail the effective measures and remarkable achievements the university has taken and made in deepening education and teaching reform in recent years.
Liang elaborated that the university has always kept in mind the initial mission of “cultivating students into talents for the Party and the country”. It has refined the general goal of “cultivating students into backbone and leading professionals who consciously serve the country with both political integrity and practical work ability”, and thoroughly implemented the integrated education and teaching system that gives highlight to the enhancement of morality, ability, and the awareness of the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship. As a result, the central status of student training becomes prominent, the quality of the training improves constantly, and the characteristics of the training are more obvious, which provide strong talent support for the national strategies and the construction of Anhui into a source area of sci-tech innovations, a clustering area of emerging industries, a new hub of reform and opening up, and a green zone in comprehensive transformation.
To answer the questions collected before, the president analyzed in detail the roles and relationship of the first class, the second class and the teaching on a practice site, as well as the significance of process management in the training of students into high-level innovative professionals. He asked students to learn well knowledge in the classroom, deepen understanding of the learnt knowledge in experiments and practical training, be innovative when using the knowledge in various practical activities, and strive to be top-notch innovative professionals through hard work in overcoming difficulties, innovation and entrepreneurship.
The president emphasized that on the journey towards the Second Centenary Goal, young college students are the fresh force in sci-tech innovation. Students should improve their innovative thinking ability and have the courage to be first in innovation, and lay a solid foundation for achieving high-level original achievements in the future. Students must always keep the motherland in mind, serve the people heart and soul, integrate personal ideals into the great course of the motherland, devote their youth and spread their sweat wherever the country and the people need, and make unremitting efforts to build China into a modern socialist country in an all-round way.
Scholars, specialists and leading entrepreneurs are invited to give lectures to the camp. They are Yuan Liang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Cao Renxian, chairman of Sungrow Power Supply, Xu Lijin, chairman of EFORT Intelligent Equipment, Luo Jian, general manager of NIO Vehicle R&D Center, and Li Bin, general manager of BOE Hefei. The camp will combine theoretical learning with the real scenario of innovation and entrepreneurship for students, and arrange study tours to such big-name high-tech companies as NIO and BOE, so as to let the camp participants experience real sci-tech innovation, understand the status quo of the development of modern industry and become aware of the need of the society for talented people. It is hoped that, in this way, the students can finalize their development direction and clarify their goals.
Zhu Xiaoyong, deputy dean of the Intelligent Manufacturing Institute of HFUT, presided over the opening ceremony and the first lecture. Relevant departments of the university, joint school-running entities and other leaders of the institute were present at the opening ceremony.
